Pembroke School District #259 Welcomes New Principal
HOPKINS PARK, Illinois – The board and staff of Lorenzo R. Smith School will welcome a new Principal, Mr. Steven J. Chambers VI for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. Mr. Chambers is joining Lorenzo R. Smith School with nearly 23 years of experience in education.
He started his career in Rich Township High School District #227, Richton Park, Illinois, and since then, has served in positions ranging from teacher, administrator, and currently Principal of Lorenzo R. Smith Elementary
Pembroke Community Consolidated School District #259’s leadership was equally as excited to find Mr. Chambers and the expertise and vision he brings to the table.
Mr. Chamber’s educational background is extensive. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Governors State University and a Master of Arts degree in School Leadership from Concordia University Chicago.
"Steven Chambers not only brings a wealth of experience to the PCCSD#259 team, but his leadership style and character make him a great fit for the students and families we serve at Lorenzo R. Smith School," said Dr. Nicole Terrell-Smith, Superintendent of Pembroke Community Consolidated School District #259. "Mr. Chambers’ expertise and perspective will also be a tremendous asset as we grow our program and establish strategic priorities that ensure we continue to be responsive to the needs of our children.”
As Mr. Chambers looks ahead to his new role, he, too, expressed excitement to begin collaborating.
"We have some wonderful instructional programming upcoming; standards-based instruction, new teacher evaluations, and additional resources to bolster our science curriculum. It is going to be an excellent time to be a student at Lorenzo R. Smith Elementary,” says Mr. Chambers.
"I believe that Lorenzo R. Smith has excellent traditions and a legacy that deserves to be carried forward into the 21st century."
School registration is currently underway. On August 5th, new students will have the opportunity to register during the Back to School Bash from noon to 4:00 pm held at Lorenzo R. Smith School located at 4120 W. Wheeler St. in Hopkins Park. Donations are being accepted for supplies, uniforms, and monetary. For more information, please contact the school at 815-944-5219.
